Now with over 10 million copies sold, The Mistborn Series has the thrills of a heist story, the twistiness of political intrigue, and the epic scale of a landmark fantasy saga.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison. Kelsier "snapped" and found in himself the powers of a Mistborn. A brilliant thief and natural leader, he turned his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark.

Kelsier recruited the underworld's elite, the smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, each of whom shares one of his many powers, and all of whom relish a high-stakes challenge. Only then does he reveal his ultimate dream, not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot.

But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel's plan looks more like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life. Like him, she's a half-Skaa orphan, but she's lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets, and gotten it. She will have to learn to trust, if Kel is to help her master powers of which she never dreamed.

This saga dares to ask a simple question: What if the hero of prophecy fails?

This book is so well written. Quirky, fantasy. I was wrapped in the whole time, borders on a 5 for me. Rarely do I give 5s, only when the pull emotions from me I didn’t expect.

Slow start, banger ending. I have a feeling book 2 is going to be really, really good. Solid twists and great character development. The tiktokers were right.

  • Should be young adult

Good idea, very poorly written. These books should be classified as young adult. I will say, the magic is really fun to read about — it’s the type of book you wish the author to revisit after they’ve honed their craft. You will read the same sentence about a thousand times. A lot of arched eyebrows (seems to be the only thing people can do to react to anything). A lot of inane conversations and internal dialogue that add nothing to the story. A lot of sieges that really don’t have a large impact on the actual problem facing the characters. Etc, etc. Pushed through the first bc the ratings were so good, I assumed it would get better. It got worse. Pushed through the second. Got halfway through the third (by far the worst) and gave up.

Definitely YA. It could have been compacted and half of the dialogue cut out. Really great idea but dragged out and totally predictable. Not gonna waste more time on the rest of the series as it’s a lot to wade thru
