From Kristin Hannah, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the smash-hit novels Firefly Lane, The Nightingale, and The Four Winds comes a novel about how one reckless night destroys the lives of three teenagers and their families.

For eighteen years, Jude Farraday has put her children's needs above her own, and it shows—her twins, Mia and Zach, are bright and happy teenagers. When Lexi Baill moves into their small, close-knit community, no one is more welcoming than Jude. Lexi, a former foster child with a dark past, quickly becomes Mia's best friend. Then Zach falls in love with Lexi and the three become inseparable.

Jude does everything to keep her kids out of harm's way. But senior year of high school tests them all. It's a dangerous, explosive season of drinking, driving, parties, and kids who want to let loose. And then on a hot summer's night, one bad decision is made. In the blink of an eye, the Farraday family will be torn apart and Lexi will lose everything. In the years that follow, each must face the consequences of that single night and find a way to forget…or the courage to forgive.

Vivid, universal, and emotionally complex, Night Road raises profound questions about motherhood, identity, love, and forgiveness. It is a luminous, heartbreaking novel that captures both the exquisite pain of loss and the stunning power of hope. This is Kristin Hannah at her very best, telling an unforgettable story about the longing for family, the resilience of the human heart, and the courage it takes to forgive the people we love.

"You cannot read Night Road and not be affected by the story and the characters. The total impact of the book will stay with you for days to come after it is finished." —The Huffington Post

For some reason this was a slow start for me. But once it hit me, I couldn’t put it down. I could truly capture the emotions of everyone in the family and how they fed off each other, but it was a beautiful depiction of how grief looks different for EVERYBODY!! And, for some, there are patient loved ones awaiting, and for some their own “Grace” may appear!

One of the most gripping of Kristen Hannah’s novels and will leave a myriad of feelings long after this critique. The characters were real, the high school antics and parties just as dangerous as they sounded, and the distress of those characters touched by the loss of one was palpable. It is a book filled with joy, terror, loss, and rebuilding and I highly, highly recommend it. Whew.

Many of Kristen’s books are hard to read because of the impossibly difficult lives of the women she honors for their strength and resilience. This one is an easier read, but no less impactful. I loved the book. So touching to my soul.

Great book! This story begins with an unthinkable tragedy. Through vivid story telling,we feel the characters raw emotions of pain and grief. But it is also a story of the beauty of living again, courage to love and forgive. I loved it and think most readers will.

Loved this book. Couldn’t put it down. Full of so many emotions and lessons to learn!
  • Not suited for a “mature” audience

I found the first half of the book a bit “adolescent”. And, the second half of the book to be a little too “selfish and self-loathing” at the same time, given how Jude was acting towards her son, her husband and herself. She came across so mean especially when it came to Lexi. I’m not sure how realistic this could really be how a parent acts, since I am a parent. The closure finally came, but I would have liked to hear more about Zach and Lexi at the end. Maybe my tastes were too mature for this type of book. Better suited to a “ younger’ reader.

We can see ourselves in the main character, Jude. Anyone who has or had children can relate to her.
  • An emotional read you just can’t put down!

This book was a fast read and kept the reader engaged. It was predictable but I still enjoyed it.
