With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Tugs at every fiber of my being as the son of a WWII and Korea war hero who lived on the side of victory at a substantial cost to him and his family.

Brought me to tears, such a well written story from a perspective of those back home and how they suffered. Love conquers all.

I couldn’t put this book down, although, I didn’t want it to end. Inspirational and heartbreaking. These two women take you on a journey of survival beyond anything I could have ever imagined. Thank you Kristen Hannah, for giving me insight into a world I knew little about. DB

This beautifully written, fictional recapture of women, sisters, and the family we choose brought tears to my eyes. In a world of grey during WWII, Hannah tells a colorful recapture of women who risked everything to save the lives of downed airmen and children left behind by their parents imprisoned in concentration camps. My heart ached with utter sadness and total pride reading The Nightingale. Wow. A MUST READ.
